Project Reality is a series of tactical first-person shooter video game modifications that aim to create a realistic teamwork-based shooter centered around modern warfare and combined arms. The original version, Project Reality: BF2, was released in 2005 for Battlefield 2, it is still being updated on a regular basis[1] and became a stand-alone game in 2015.[2] Project Reality for Arma 2 was released as a beta in 2011; development was later moved to Arma 3 in 2013. Project Reality 2 is the canceled sequel to the Project Reality mod for Battlefield 2, the game was announced in September 2013. PR2 was intended to be completely free for anyone to download and play.

As of December 2015 no details about the game have been released in well over a year. The project manager resigned long ago and the official forums have been disabled. Lead PR:BF2 developer "Ancientman" confirmed that the game was indeed canceled.

Project Reality focuses on - as the title suggests - reality. The core gameplay has been reworked to place a greater emphasis on teamwork and cooperation, with weapon and vehicle mechanics modified to reflect their real life counterparts. This even goes as deep as the underlying ballistics, which have been audited to reflect the real weapons by changing damage, deviation and bullet drop based on weapon calibre.

I spoke to Mineral, currently Lead Developer on the project. He's been playing since 2012 and says "I was interested in how the developers made the game so I decided to give it a try myself. Due to the support of the development team with their written tutorials and constant feedback it was very easy to learn fast." Soon after this, he became a Tester and from there slowly took on more responsibility, "In the team you are free to work on your own things and contribute to the work of others. It is an extremely nice way of working together in a large group of volunteers."

Mineral had a little advice for new players, saying "we have an extensive manual, and it's always a good idea to read that while downloading and installing. And make sure to tell your squad you are new to the game. They will be more then willing to teach you the ropes." It's this support and dare I say documentation that has helped to keep Project Reality alive for the past 15 years.

Fans who love tactical shooters and team games will cherish this mod. Furthermore, there is no additional cost to downloading it. Players who own the original premium game version can download the mod for free and play it. Fans can click on the link and download it when it releases.

Alongside key changes to the gameplay and UI, a new day and night cycle will be introduced, as well as models, maps, and plenty more extra content for the original game. Despite the modding team promising a more tactical experience, Battlefield 3's Reality mod will also allow for over 100 people on a single server, meaning some of that typical Battlefield chaos could also feature should players be so inclined. With fans still disappointed over DICE and EA's handling of Battlefield 2042, they'll likely be glad they can turn to these community projects if they want a Battlefield experience more tied to the franchise's origins.
